On the next Modern Notebook with Tyler Kline: On April 8th, 2024, a solar eclipse will sweep across North America, and over 31 million Americans are in the 100-plus mile-wide path of totality. On the next Modern Notebook, we will hear music by Jessica Meyer commissioned by the group fivebyfive and composed specifically for this monumental event.

Then, Elisanda Fabregas’s Goyescas is filled with the flavors of Spanish folk music, conveyed through insistent dance rhythms, mysterious dreamy passages, and passages that evoke older times. It’s music inspired by five paintings of Francisco Goya, a painter regarded as the most important Spanish artist of the late 18th and early 19th century.

Plus, music by Nico Muhly, Enrico Chapela, Donnacha Dennehy, Derrick Skye, Amy Williams, Ofer Pelz, and others; and performances by harpist Chelsea Lane, Crash Ensemble, Miró Quartet with Conspirare, pianist Clare Longendyke, Kornos Quartet, Meitar Ensemble, and more.
