On this week’s Modern Notebook, Tyler Kline shares an emotionally poignant and visceral work by Andile Khumalo titled “Beyond Her Mask,” which was composed in response to the pandemic and is intended to raise awareness of domestic violence.

Also, saxophonist Otis Murphy performs a work by Ellen Taffe Zwillich and music by Anthony R. Green from the ensemble FiveByFive’s latest release.

Featuring works by Eleanor Alberga, Nathalie Joachim, Julius Eastman, Jeffrey Mumford, and others; and performances by the Pacifica Quartet, Ensmeble dal Niente, Infrasound (flutists Yoshi Weinberg and Stefanie Proulx, and vocalists Luke Paulino and Shannyn Rinker), and more.

That and more on the next Modern Notebook, Sunday night from 8 to 10 ET on Classical WSMR 89.1 and 103.9. Streaming at wsmr.org.
