On this week’s Modern Notebook, Tyler Kline celebrates the upcoming Lunar New Year – the Year of the Tiger – with Toshio Hosokawa’s piano concerto “Lotus Under the Moonlight.”


Plus, Du Yun’s “When a Tiger Meets a Rosa Rugosa,” music that is inspired by a line of poetry the composer encountered on a broken mural in rural China.


Also featuring works by Chen Yi, Akemi Naito, Huang Ruo, Xiaogang Ye, Shuying Li, and others; and performances by violinist Patrick Yim, Third Sound, soprano Liping Zhang, pianist Momo Kodama, Four Corners Ensemble, and more.
