On this week’s Modern Notebook: music for piano, percussion, and electronics by Nina C. Young inspired by Russian Orthodox Church bells – a work called Kolokol. Also, music by Philip Glass performed by Eighth Blackbird, and Huang Ruo‘s Violin Concerto, subtitled “Omnipresence.”. Featuring performances by pianist Nadia Schpachenko, Aizuri Quartet, Admiral Launch Duo, violinist David Bowlin, and more.

Hour 1

  • Traditional Danish folk music – Easter Sunday and Polsk after Rasmus Storm – performed by the Danish String Quartet.
  • Phillip Glass’s Music in Similar Motion.
  • Crash Ensemble performs music by Linda Buckley.
  • Kolokol by Nina C. Young.
  • Yevgeniy Sharlat’s RIPEFG for string quartet.


Hour 2

  • Music for saxophone and harp by Jasper Sussman titled …nice box “Oh So Square”
  • Patrick Burke’s Hypno-Germ.
  • The Violin Concerto No. 1 by Huang Ruo, subtitled Omnipresence.
  • Music for soprano and ensemble, Mother Tongues, by Anna Weesner, which sets the text of Sonia Sanchez.
