Modern Notebook Interview: Pianist Ann DuHamel
Original air date: July 3, 2022
On this edition of Modern Notebook, Tyler Kline is joined by pianist Ann DuHamel to discuss her project, “Prayers for a Feverish Planet.” “Prayers for a Feverish Planet” is a collection of 60 new works for piano, with or without electronics, which all confront the climate crisis. Ann is also Associate Professor of Music at the University of Minnesota Morris.
From Ann: “In late 2019, I was feeling really, reaaallllly despondent about the climate crisis. Every day, I read more devastating news about something on earth that was now extinct, in flames, or underwater. Wanting to make some kind of difference (and knowing that I don’t have the personality or fortitude to run for office), I launched a call for scores so that I could use music to make a difference.”
